Dear Ken,

After Argus Manufacturing Company, of Chicago, stopped making The Iron Claw, a number of decades ago, production was resumed by Jay Pee, of New York.

Jay Pee had The Iron Claw -- as yours and others read -- Made in Taiwan to reduce costs, the same reason many if not most other American companies ceased domestic and instituted foreign production.

The Iron Claw was discontinued altogether within the last couple of years; as of today, it no longer is made at all.

Incidentally, although the patent numbers are correct, being the ones granted The Iron Claw's inventor, Yngve Smith-Stange and assigned to Argus, the patents themselves expired long ago. It was superfluous for Jay Pee to stamp them on its Iron Claws. Jay Pee also began its serial numbers afresh, as Argus made over 180,000 Iron Claws.

Cheers,

Jack
