Okay, I'm a little late in this discussion, but just wanted to show that yes, I am reading the Alex Nichols book while at the gym. Page 35 of the book addresses the M & C mark on these handcuffs.

"A suggestion is that the letters may mean Military and Colonial, implying use in the armed forces and in the colonies."

Gee, I might actually be ready for a handcuff test someone once told me I should prepare for! (Quick, I need to knock on wood so I won't jinx myself!)
