Joe, I also belive that these cuffs have nothing to do with Wells Fargo. While darby cuffs are generally used by British law enforcement, Provedence Tool Co. was an American company and sold quite a few of their cuffs in the U.S. It is possible that the manufacture and use of thse cuffs coincided with the era of the stage coach. The thing that makes me believe that the cuffs were not issued or ordered by Well Fargo is that the company almost always used the initials "W. F. & Co." I have seen these initials on strong boxes, padlocks, and advertising literature. I also believe that Wells Fargo had no power to arrest and used the famous Pinkerton Detective Agency to track down and take to justice, any stage robbers.
