Dear Bruce, I would agree with you on this one, even to the point where the names may have been factory stamped. It is done with many things. Padlocks come to mind and one safe lock made here goes under the makers names and also Chubb even though they don't make it.
Back to the Darbies, I am told when the state of Victoria (Australia) was still 52 odd different colonies, the private police forces would use the Government issued Darby handcuff pattern to make their cuffs locally. As far as I am told, no names appear on these cuffs.
