Australian prison camp handcuffs?

Some time ago I got a pair of authentic Australian prison camp handcuffs. Till then I had never seen a pair like these before. They do not lock by themselves but can be fastened by rivetting or a padlock. Does anyone have more info on these rare cuffs?
