: Hi, first congratulations for your amazing site - a MUST for all handcuff collector's! Now I've some questions about handcuffs from my own modest collection (53 pieces of hand cuffs, leg irons and similar stuff):
Thanks. You ask quite a few good questions. Let me try to give you
some answers.
: 1. what's the difference between "Crockett and Kelly - Model 1 Version 2" and "Crockett and Kelly Model 2"?
The position of the key hole has been moved from the center to the side.
: 2. I'm a proud owner of a "Bean Cobb" without patend date stamp. Does this mean the cuff is older than May 1899?
Can't tell. No patent date can also mean later, after the patent has expired.
: 3. Has the "Clejuso Standard Weight Modified Swivel" just been sold at the US marked? In Germany you mostly see the normal version.
It has been modified post factory. Don't know why or where it was done.
: 4. What's the difference between the two "Deutsche Polizei" of the 1960s in the gallery?
There are all sorts of minor variations. The last two in the gallery differ becasue one
has a double lock lever on the back and the other does not.
: 5. What's the difference between Hiatt 1960 light and heavy?
The difference is indeed just weight. One cuff is much heavier
than the other. Feels more secure.
: 6. Is JGA a German or a Japanese Handcuff Manufacturer?
Good question. I don't know where they were made. One pair say JGA Germany
the other JGA Japan. Otherwise they are identical.
: 7. Are you sure that "La Massenotte" are 1940s? I thought they are from the 60s.
I think they were made for quite a few years. But I think they started in the 1940s.
I could be wrong.
: 8. What's the prize for a Mattatuck without key in a condition like the one shown in your gallery?
I would say a Mattatuck would go for about $80.
: 9. What's the difference between S&W M94 Model 2 and 3?
I would call them versions, not models. The two version differ
at the hinge. Look at the pictures and you can see what I mean.
: 10. Is the Swivel Model of the Tower's Double Lock always manufactured by Union Hardware?
The swivel was introduced after Tower became part of Union Hardware. The swivel idea
was copied from Bean handcuffs.
: Regards, Atame
likewise.
