Chris sent me a picture of the Hiatt Bean Cobb handcuff
that he recently acquired. Chris also sends the message:
"Tried to photograph the Hiatt Cobb cuffs but found scanning them came out
better. Attached is the scan (The Hiatt ones are the plated model). There
is no date on them and they have numbers 680 and 670 stamped on the hinge. I
cut a smooth operating key for them last night and it does not fit either of
the Cobb cuffs I have. Any info greatly appreciated, hope you can put the
attached file on the site.
Keep up the good work
Chris"
I have in my collection Hiatt marked versions of the
Bean patrolman and the regular Bean legiron, but I have
never seen a Hiatt Bean Cobb before. My Hiatt Bean
patrolman looks different than a regualar Bean, but
the leg iron is looks the same as a regular one.
The fact that Chris's Hiatt Bean Cobb actually takes a
slightly different key is very interesting.
So every one, let us access our collective knowledge.
1. Has any else seen one of these Hiatt Bean Cobb cuffs before?
2. Who do you think actually manufactured them?
3. Has anyone ever seen a Hiatt Bean Cobb legiron?
3. Does anyone have any hard knowledge about any of the
Hiatt versions of the Bean handcuffs?
Thanks go to Chris for the picture and information.

P.S. Chris also mentions an article from the Strand
magazine by a Inspector Moser. This article is already
posted on this web site. It includes a picture of a
Bean patrolman handcuff. He calls it simply an
"American Handcuff."
